  6. To pass you get three (3) attempts on the two end of course tests. After passing the tests, verify your information and then print out your Texas Adult Drivers Education Certificate.

  8. Take your Certificate to the DPS and request a learner's permit if you want to legally practice before your driving test. Having a power of attorney with the student does not qualify. However, a parent, legal guardian, or a judge with jurisdiction over the student can designate a person to be an instructor.
    • Be at least 25 years old;
    • Can not charge a fee for conducting the course;
    • Have at least seven years of driving experience.
    • The instructor must have a valid driver’s license for the past three years. If you held an out-of-state license during the past three years, you will be required to provide a copy of your driving record showing your three years of licensed driving history.

  4. Begin the course and finish Module 1
  5. At the end of Module 1 there is a test known as the Learner’s License test (Knowledge Test). This test eliminates taking the written test at the DPS. Hooray! Upon passing the test, call Drivers Education of America to verify your basic information. Then download and print your Learners License certificate also known as a PT DE-964.

  6. Get your Learner’s License at the TX DPS
  7. Congratulations! Now, if you are 15 years old or older, take your PT DE-964 certificate, the PTDE Program Guide Receipt Page (1st page of your program guide) and other required documents to the DPS. Once there expect a vision test. Upon passing the vision test and submitting all of the correct documents a learner’s permit will be yours! Make sure your parents or legal guardian go to the DPS with you. No parent or guardian, no learner’s permit.

  8. Complete the Drivers Education of America’s online course and your driving lessons
  9. Finish the rest of the online course and the driving lesson hours with your parent instructor (44 hours of driving with your instructor).

  7. Congratulations! Take your certificate and other required items to the DPS to take a vision test and get your permit. You must be at least 15 years old to get your Texas Learners Permit.   8. Complete the Drivers Education of America’s online course and your driving lessons
  9. Finish the rest of the online course and complete your in-car driving lessons with the transfer driving school of your choice. Once you complete the online course, you will receive your DEE-964 Driver License Certificate of Completion that will transfer to an in-person driving school.
